Mr Miyauchi Yuji – Welcome speech
According to A/Prof. Nguyen Tan Cuong, MD. PhD., during the treatment process, many patients died not from the disease but from exhaustion and nutritional deficiency. Malnutrition is a condition in which the body lacks basic nutrients (Protein, Glucid, Lipid), energy, vitamins and minerals. Especially, vitamin deficiency also causes patients to have various pathological manifestations, leading to many serious health consequences.

At the symposium, information related to parenteral nutrition in clinical practice with the latest updates, especially the role of Vitamin B1 supplementation in inpatient treatment, was presented through two reports of A/Prof. Nguyen Thi Quy, MD. PhD. – Vice President of HCM Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Luu Ngan Tam MD. PhD. – Head of Nutrition Dept., Cho Ray Hospital, President of HoSPEN.

Also in the symposium, Prof. Ryoji Fukushima, MD. PhD. – Department of Surgery, Teikyo University, School of Medicine, Japan – shared clinical cases using infusions containing Vitamin B1 in Japan. The report shows that, in patients with potential gastrointestinal surgery (paraclinical), Vitamin B1 deficiency is not uncommon. Vitamin B1 blood levels decreased after surgery and did not recover to normal levels even after continuing to take the medication. The report also emphasizes that adding Vitamin B1 to peripheral parenteral nutrition solutions is safe.
