On May 6th, 2023, Otsuka Vietnam Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company organized the symposium on the topic “Nutrition therapy in liver failure & Immunonutrition for patients with hypermetabolism”. The chairwoman was Luu Ngan Tam MD. PhD – President of VietSPEN with the participation of nutritionists and health care professionals in the field of nursing at hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring provinces.

According to Luu Ngan Tam MD. PhD., cirrhosis of the liver is increasingly common, leading to many adverse complications including malnutrition. According to statistics, malnutrition occurs in over 80% of patients with decompensated cirrhosis, which is a factor directly related to the patient’s prognosis. Two scientific reports, which presented at the symposium, were “Nutrition in Liver Failure and the Role of BCAA+” by Luu Ngan Tam MD. PhD., providing valuable information on nutrition for patients with liver disease, especially the important role of branched amino acids (BCAA – Branched Chain Amino Acid); and “Immune regulation for patients with hypermetabolism” by Tran Thi Anh Tuong MD. SL2. – Head of the Department of Nutrition, Oncology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City. The report focused on the role of immunonutrition in patients with hypermetabolism.
