GASTRO-LIVER WEEK 2025: A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN GASTROINTESTINAL AND HEPA-BILIARY DISEASES

On December 14, 2025, the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City (UMC) organized the scientific conference “GASTRO-LIVER WEEK 2025 UPDATES” in Ho Chi Minh City, with the participation of over 600 doctors and medical staff from many medical facilities nationwide. The conference is an annual continuing medical education activity, focusing on updating the latest advances in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, in line with the increasing demands of clinical practice.

According to Vo Duy Thong, MD. PhD. Assoc. Prof., Head of the Gastroenterology Department at the University Medical Center, this year’s conference focuses on issues requiring in-depth and timely updates in the field. Particularly noteworthy is fatty liver disease related to metabolic disorders MASLD and MASH, which is rapidly increasing along with the burden of obesity and diabetes. Systematic risk stratification helps doctors optimize screening, monitoring, and treatment strategies, rather than applying them uniformly to all patients.

In addition, gastrointestinal disorders such as motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and chronic inflammatory bowel disease are also undergoing significant changes in diagnosis and treatment strategies. These updates contribute to standardizing practice, helping physicians select appropriate methods and monitor treatment response more effectively. A topic that received much attention at the conference was chronic hepatitis B and the shift in treatment goals towards the concept of “Functional Cure”.

From the patient’s perspective, the advancements updated at the conference offer many practical benefits, including earlier and safer diagnosis, personalized treatment, and improved prognosis and long-term quality of life in chronic gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases.

Concluding GASTRO-LIVER WEEK 2025, the conference affirmed the role of the University Medical Center in connecting experts, disseminating knowledge, and promoting a holistic approach to managing gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases, focusing on the patient and aiming for sustainable treatment outcomes.
