On November 18, Bach Mai Hospital celebrated the 15th Anniversary establishment of the Clinical Nutrition Center, in conjunction with the Scientific Conference on Clinical Nutrition—a milestone marking significant progress in improving nutritional care quality in Vietnam.
Reflecting on the 15-year journey of development, Dr. Nghiem Nguyet Thu, Director of the Clinical Nutrition Center, shared: Starting as a small department with limited staffs and numerous challenges but full of determination, the Center has now become the backbone of nutritional care at Bach Mai Hospital—one of the leading institutions in Vietnam for clinical nutrition. Here, 100% of inpatients undergo nutritional screening, and those at risk receive assessment and intervention according to international standards.
The Center consistently focuses on standardizing therapeutic nutrition, developing disease-specific diets based on scientific evidence and recommendations from professional associations. Notably, with specialized support from Japanese experts (JIHS), Bach Mai Hospital became the first unit in Vietnam to successfully provide tailored diets for patients with swallowing disorders.
This year’s scientific conference also featured the participation of many renowned experts presenting in-depth papers on topics such as optimizing nutrition for critically ill patients, nutritional care for liver transplant recipients, and other updated subjects. The discussion sessions offered new perspectives and practical solutions for clinical nutrition practice in Vietnam.
