In the presentation, malnutrition status and protein energy wasting are shared and these conditions are very common in patients with chronic kidney disease because of many reasons. Improving nutrition status plays an important role in enhancing quality of life. In fact, many CKD patients have limited the protein intake that is key reason of malnutrition. Dr. Phuong Dung Ta pointed out that patient with kidney failure need to be provided enough energy every day, including protein, carbohydrate and fat. if patient have hemodialysis 3 times per week,  protein is provided at least 1.2 to 1.3/kg/day base on dry weight. Protein is found in many foods such as eggs, meat, fish, milk, cheese. The patient is required taking adequate protein amount through enteral nutrion and parenteral nutrition is indicated if needs. The some specific protein formulations for patients with kidney failure are introduced during the meeting. Furthermore, it is very important to pay attention on controlling water and electrolyte balance, especially the amount of sodium, potassium and phosphorus ions intake.
