In the last 2 days from November 5th to 6th, the first congress of Vietnam Dialysis Association (VDA) was held in Hanoi. Because of the Covid-19 epidemic situation, the congress was held in an online form, but still attracted the attendance of more than 700 healthcare professionals working in the field of dialysis in nationwide.
Vietnam Dialysis Association was established in October 2020, with the aim of building and developing science and technology in the field of dialysis, improving the professional capacity of its members, thereby contributing to the development of advanced medical science and enhancing the protection of patient.
The 1st congress – Vietnam Dialysis Association
Reporting on the current situation of dialysis, Nguyen Huu Dung MD. PhD. – The President of VDA said that, the number of patients undergoing renal replacement therapy is about 5.3 – 10.5 million people worldwide, and there are more than 30,000 patients undergoing dialysis treatment in Vietnam. By generating dialysis data through survey, the pattern and burden of disease will be understood clearly and that will provided appropriate management policies. These surveys has not been carried out regularly in many countries including Vietnam. Therefore, a survey on the general situation of dialysis in Vietnam is one of the first and important activity of VAD.
The congress program is including two parts: Continuing medical education (CME) and scientific section with the participation leading experts in the field of Dialysis. Topics related to clinical practice and current issues has been shared such as: Organizing dialysis for patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, dialysis techniques, water and methods dialysis, drug use in dialysis patients… The congress had two international speaker: Prof. Micaheal Etter from Germany with a presentation on Safety in Dialysis and Prof. Yoshihiko Kanno from Japan with a presentation on Nutritional Therapy for Dialysis Patients.
